Relative Insanity

by Shauna on August 18, 2010

My second book, Relative Insanity, was released yesterday. And as you can imagine I’m super excited.

This is my excited face. Seems kinda lame if you ask me.

Seeing the finished product makes me very happy.

This is my happy face. Also, note the missing constipated look. Yeah, baby.

People are emailing asking what the book is about. Seriously, it’s been so long since I’ve read it that I hardly remember. But if memory serves it’s about a wife/mom named Kate, who gives up her career outside the home to stay home and raise her three children. She’s surrounded by a cast of characters also known as her family. Kate struggles with feelings of discontent…she constantly feels like her life has amounted to being nothing more than the resident nose wiper. And she’s not happy about it.

If you like this website you’ll love the book. Kate is ridiculous…like me. You will laugh more than you will cry, and don’t be surprised if you confuse Kate with me. Everyone who’s read it says something like…”I love the part where YOU blah blah blah. And I’m all “DUDE, THE BOOK IS NOT ABOUT ME!”

It’s fiction. Honest.

My favorite part of the book is the back cover. Some amazing friends of mine offered their editorial review. I should make you wait until you BUY YOUR OWN COPY (insert subliminal message here) to read what they wrote but I won’t. I’m a giver like that.

Jenny Lawson, The Bloggess, wrote: “This book is good birth control. It will also make you laugh like hell. You should buy it because it’s hard to find that kind of combination without a medical prescription.”

Adam Avitable wrote: “From the title, I thought this was a book to help me deal with my brother’s bi-polar disorder, because he’s spiraling down very quickly and I needed immediate assistance. He’d dead now, but man, this book was funny.”

Danny Evans, author of Rage Against The Meshugenah wrote: “Shauna Glenn if from that rare breed of authors who can make you laugh until you cry even when she’s writing about the most raw and visceral human emotions. Driven by heart and hilarity, RELATIVE INSANITY might just be Shauna’s best novel yet.”

I would love to give the first signed copy to one of you. Just leave a comment telling me about someone in your life who offers relative insaneness. (That sentence was so grammatically incorrect but I don’t even care. You know what I mean. In other words, which family member of yours is cray-cray)

Now hurry and get your copy of the book before it runs out. I need every $1.50 I can get.

It’s also available for Kindle. If you’re into that.

Thanks to everyone for your undying love and support. You. Complete. Me.

my husband was diagnosed with bipolar disorder last year. he refuses to take his pills regularly and makes my life a nightmare every time he stops. we are in counseling and he tries to make ME look like the crazy one because he “doesn’t need the pills anyway”. Is bipolar disorder contagious? I think he’s making me crazy.

You should come visit a family gathering at my house. I’m sure you could find more than enough insanity to make Relative Insanity a triology. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law argued so much after my niece’s baptisim that my water broke. I was preggers with my first child. It was a FUN day!!!

The better question is, who in my family isn’t crazy. I stem from a long line of crazy…which would make me crazy too.

I have a mother-in-law who does more than drive me insane.
She inundates my home with more clothing then my children need from rummage sales, still buys clothes for my husband, all.the.time. in addition to all the other misc. shit she does that drives me beyond crazy.

My mother – she hasn’t been “medically” diagnosed as bi-polar but believe you me – I KNOW she is!! Love your blog – would love your book too!

My sister. She is nuttier than squirrel poop. I’m talking certifiable nutty. And clearly in denial about it. Whenever I see her, I steal her meds.

Kick ass on book #2! I’m so honored that I’ve actually met someone as famous as you.

My two boys tell me that it’s ME who’s the maniacal one! But honestly, I swear it’s my husband. I often find him dancing in the bathroom while looking at himself in the mirror – he also has OCD and has to touch the doorknobs of every single door in our house before he goes to bed. After that our keys have to be in the exact same spot, right under our cell phones. If I’m asleep, and he can’t find my keys he will wake me up so he can place them in the right spot. The best thing he’s NUTS about though is laundry. I know I’ve told you this before but just to remind you, he has a thing about doing laundry and will literally make me take my clothes off to make a full load!

So excited for you Shauna and I can’t wait to read your 2nd book!

I should say that I’m the insane one since I actually HAVE a diagnosis, but it’s clear that my mother is way more insane than I am. She’s been known to have whole arguments with me, when I’m not in the room or on the phone with her. She’ll yell at me, then respond with what she thinks I’d say, then yell again and so on.

Aw… I can’t wait to read it! Mind you, if I pee my pants I’m sending you my dry cleaning bill. Although, really, dry cleaning for urine? No way! That sheot needs soap and water, pronto! I mean… so I’ve heard.

Hmmm… perhaps I’m my own relative insanity?!? Say it ain’t so!

Well, shit. I’m all, yeah, who’s the batshit craziest in our family belfrey? And the answer was me. Hmmm. Sucks to be me. Especially seeing as how I went all batshit crazy on Emile Hirsch the other day, completely not believing that he was Emile Hirsch, and surprise, he was. However, I’m totally suggesting your book for our next book club meeting! Unfortunately for you, there are only 4 of us. But hey, $6 for you!

Am I too late to discuss my family’s craziness!??! Hope not b/c really there is WAY too much crazy in my family to even decide the craziEST (or are we just dysfunctional – wait, is there a difference?). Crap.

Guess I’ll opt for one of my husband’s aunts (so, my aunt-in-law?). She wears anti-abortion and jesus shirts everywhere. literally thought she might show up in one to our wedding. unfortunately for us, she did not.

I am SO excited about this book – I have to have it! I’ll have to remember not to read it in public for fear of laughing hysterically around strangers.

My crazy relative? That would have to be my father-in-law. Honestly – half the time I shake my head in disbelief, and half the time I just laugh….

Congrats on the book!

I went to our local B&N book store today (and by local I mean 30 miles away) specifically to buy your new book. Or, even Heaping Spoonful if Relative Insanity was sold out, which I expected it might be based on how awesome you are.
I looked all over for either book, and couldn’t find them. So I thought I’d better ask. Who knows, maybe they have a corner set up for Awesome Bloggers/Authors, and I missed it.
When I asked the girl at the desk she hadn’t even *heard* of Relative Insanity. (Bitch.) and said that they had Heaping Spoonful in their computer system but it was classified a textbook (stupid bitch) and they didn’t keep text books in stock. She gladly offered to order it for me. Why would I let her order it so that I would have to come in and pick it up, when I can go online and get it shipped to my house meaning I don’t have to get dressed or put down my wine when it gets here.
I just wanted you to know that I truly did try to buy one and possibly both of your books today, but stupid B&N in St. Charles, MO doesn’t know how awesome you are, and think you are writing text books. As if.
