I got a call on Thursday.
It was my mom.
I could hear something in her voice. She wasn’t her usual sing-songy self. There was a sadness.
Before I could ask if something was wrong, she told me.
“Mimi has breast cancer.”
My chest caved in.
And then the questions came spewing out. “What are we going to do? How bad is it? Did we catch it early?…”
But there are no answers yet.
Not until she meets with the doctor next week.
All we know is that it’s cancer.
It’s bad enough that my sweet friend Robin is fighting her own battle with breast cancer right now. It’s taken my grandmother too.
Part of me thinks…She’s 86. She’s had a great and full and beautiful life. We’re lucky.
But she’s my grandmother.

I’m so sorry, that truly sucks. I don’t care how old you are, it’s totally unfair. My grandmother is 92 and I’d have the same reaction. Fucking cancer.

What a great picture! I pray that your Mimi comes through this feeling strong of body and spirit- regardless of the diagnosis and treatments she chooses to try. My mother had breast CA in her 40s- she’s now 63 and still cancer free- keep a positive heart!

My mom got diagnosed with breast cancer last week. Cancer sucks! Watching one of the most loving woman on the planet go through cancer is not something I ever ever wanted to do… no one wants to see someone they love hurt. I’m sorry about your Mimi. I’ll send good vibes your way… and drink another glass of wine.
