i like to think of myself as a new age environmentalist. we drive a prius, recycle like crazy people, make sure everyone turns off the faucets while they brush their teeth, changed out all the light bulbs to those swirly ones and take our own bags to the grocery store. about a year and a half ago we took our mission to “single-handedly save the planet” one step further and started composting. we built a herb garden in the back of our house and started throwing the composted food in the soil as fertilizer. we were surprised to find a cantaloupe plant growing–a seed had found its way into the soil and joined forces with the dill and rosemary. it wasn’t long before the cantaloupe took over the herb garden and has since produced beautiful pieces of fruit. i went outside today to see if any were ripe, when i noticed this one growing in the fence. poor guy, he’s completely deformed and has an iron fence for a siamese twin.
i’m not quite sure what to do with wally (that’s what i’ve named him), so i think i’ll just let him live out his short life hanging out on the fence.
oh, i know what you’re thinking. you’re thinking, “wow, i’m a total piece of shit. here she is, totally selfless and environmentally conscious and i just bought a huge suv and a life supply of styrofoam cups.”
don’t beat yourself up. we also have a huge suv (how else can you fit 6 people in a car?)–ok, 2 suvs (i never said we’re fanatics). we sleep with the a/c on 72 (or lower sometimes), and EVERYONE in my family leaves EVERY light on in the house. so really, we’re posers and wannabe environmentalists–like the cool kids. and the composting thing? i’ve really slacked lately. do you know how bad the inside of a composter smells? and that’s AFTER i explained to tommy that shrimp tails and chicken bones are NOT compostible.

random question of the day: does anyone else want to reach through the television and punch elisabeth hasselbeck in the face?–just to shut her up? is she for real? who wants to bet that her bff is ann coulter? ugh.

i moved the sidebar to the other side for a change of scenery. i like this blue background better. the pink was starting to make me want to vomit.
