Liam had a similar “discovery” about two years ago while sitting on the potty…He started poking his penis with his finger and was AMAZED by how BIG and HARD it got. I was somewhat amazed too (not by the bigness, mind you, but being that it was my first experience with a boy-child, I had no idea they got little baby woodies!). He kept exclaiming, “Mama, look how BIG it is!”
I quickly called Ben to ask what I should do….I explained the story and asked him what I should say. Surely with all his pediatrician experience he knew JUST THE RIGHT THING that should be said at a moment like this. And he did. Once he stopped laughing like a hyena, he said: “Tell him, ‘Wow, Liam, you are so right! It is SO BIG. ABSOLUTELY GIGANTIC.”
Hmmm….so now I know how the lying about penis sizes gets started… It’s not that most men are lying about their “9 inches”, “12 (?!) inches, etc…..it’s just that their mothers TOLD them it was SO BIG….so it MUST be true. -Monika
